The shoes were her Christmas present from Dana (Nora's Lulu in the comments).
She was so excited to wear them today. Especially since they are slip ons. She told us this morning that she thought she would never in her life have her own pair of slip on shoes. The fact that they are sparkly is just icing on the cake I guess.
There has been knitting!!!! Inspired by Nora needing a winter hat - she's 2 and a half months old now and it's time for her to consider her style. Since she can't talk, I just kind of went for it and decided what I thought would be good with her wardrobe. The yarn is Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. The pattern came from the Rowan Babies book. I love that book. I used two strands held together so that I could get gauge.
This is the pattern if anyone wants to make it. It was pretty fast because its really just a basic hat. I knit it in the round even though the pattern suggested flat knitting. I wanted to avoid a back seam. Nora spends a lot of time laying around. She's very much a lady of leisure and I didn't want to cause any sort of discomfort. The flower construction is actually quite clever and I may use it again in the future on a hat or bag for myself.
These socks were for Nora too. Now I want you all to be impressed with me. Both of these gift items came from my stash! O.K. before you get overly excited...
I purchased these tow skeins of yarn this past Thursday. Two skeins in, two skeins out. It's all even. Not even even since I still have leftovers of the cashmerino. This stuff is yummy. Debbie Bliss Pure Silk. i haven't seen it before. I think it will be a scarf since I only have 2. They each have 123 meters - I'm too lazy at this point to figure out the yardage.
The skeins came from the Knitty Hipster. It is a very cute store with a selection of yarns for many budgets and tastes.
Also on the knitting front, I've started the other sock to match my mom's first Christmas sock that she talked herself out of. I'm going to get these finished soon so I can be wearing them.
It is getting late in the day and I know I have some new goals for the year but I haven't finalized them yet. Except for one. My attainable goal for 2007 is to stay up past midnight and see the ball drop tonight. I know it may seem like no biggie for many of you but I have woken up at 1:00 AM every new year for the last 5 years at least. When I do wake up I am always disappointed that I missed it. I'm not missing it this year. Especially since I am at Dana and Jerome's tonight and they have told me that if I do fall asleep there will be embarrassing internet photos.
I'll be back with you soon about the more serious goals. It may help me to write them down in a public way. We'll find out.

Hurray!!!, Its 12:18 am, January 1, 2007 and Beth: we saw it together. Only Buster fell asleep.
My daughter has the same dress! (She also managed to stay up past midnight too, something I never thought would happen with a 6 year old!)
